Recognizing the critical importance of the first few years of life, Southwest Human Development (SWHD) focuses on very young children ages birth to five and their families. The agency currently operates more than 40 public and private programs and projects in five primary categories: child health and welfare, early literacy, services for children with disabilities, Head Start, and training for early childhood professionals. This year, SWHD served 135,000 children and their families. It is one of the largest non-profit agencies in Arizona and the state’s largest community-based organization of its kind. The mission of Southwest Human Development is to create a positive future for young children. The agency’s overall goal is to help children establish a healthy foundation by preventing problems before they arise, or when they already exist, intervening as early and effectively as possible.

One Small Step, Inc.

One Small Step, Inc. operates The Clothes Cabin at 1100 N. Alma School Rd., Suite 9, Chandler to provide free clothing and linens to people in need. Store hours are 9 to 3, Tuesday and Wednesday. Donations are also accepted at the back door on Monday and Thursday 10 to 2.

The clothing provided by Clothes Cabin is clean, without any stains, holes, or excessive wear. Clients may come once a month, five times in 12 months, to get clothes for the entire family. A photo ID is required.

Clothes Cabin also provides free laundry service for its homeless clients. When its Back-to-Work program has funding, steel toed work boots are provided to men who need them to get or keep a job.

One Small Step, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation and is recognized by the State of Arizona as a Charitable Organization Serving the Working Poor, which allows financial donors to take a tax credit up to $400 per couple.

The Association for Supportive Child Care (ASCC) is a progressive and energetic agency that has provided a variety of services to child care providers, families, and children since 1976.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of care for children in Arizona.

Community Legal Services is a nonprofit law firm that provides civil legal assistance to low income Arizonans residing in Maricopa, Mohave, Yavapai, Yuma and LaPaz counties.

The Salvation Army is a Christian organization with it’s ‘heart to God and it’s hand to man’. We assist the people of Chandler, Gilbert, Sun Lakes, Higley and San Tan Valley with food, rental and utility assistance and other forms of help to meet basic needs and we also have an after school program at summer day camp program to assist with tutoring and recreational needs of young people in our area.

We serve the afflicted, addicted, lost, homeless, U.S. Veterans and poor. Our primary service to the Community is providing food through prepared meals at sites around the Valley and food boxes through a coop with Manna Food Bank. In 2010 Resurrection/Manna provided more than 45,000 food boxes and assisted by providing the food for preperation or directly making more than 500,000 meals.

Through the S.T.U.F.F. Thrift Store more than 10,000 items and tons of clothing were given away to Veterans or other needy people.

In 2011 we began providing rides to low income Veterans and Disabled Veterans in the Chandler area free of charge for medical appointments and other necessary appointments.

Since 1991 we have been organically growing fruits and vegetables on vacant lots here in the East Valley and donating the produce to local food banks, shelters and other non profit organizations. We currently do this on donated land with the help and support of local businesses and volunteers and on a shoe-string budget. Our mission in not only to get great, local, nutrient dense produce to our food banks for families in need, but also to educate the community in eco-friendly, healthy and more sustainable ways of living.

The Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) is the non profit educational partner of the Chandler Unified School District. 25 years strong, we remain committed to our vision of raising significant funds to support excellence in education, community service and life long learning. CEF provides classroom and school wide grants to our CUSD teachers and provide post secondary scholarships to our granduating high school seniors.

For almost twenty years, the Chandler Symphony Orchestra has been serving the community, offering concerts to the public, free of charge.

OUR MISSION
Matthew’s Crossing is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization which provides people with food assistance. It is our goal to help alleviate hunger by providing food for families and individuals through our community of volunteers and resources. Each month we feed more than 3,000 people. Most of our clients are working families. They are employed full-time or part-time, and yet still are in need of supplemental food. We also serve people between jobs, those on fixed incomes, seniors, people with disabilities, and homeless clients.

OUR SERVICES
Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank is open Monday -Thursday 9:00-2:00 for Emergency Food boxes; and Fridays from 9:00 am-2:00 pm for Supplemental Food Bags. Anyone who registers and shows a photo ID can receive (1) Emergency Food Box each month, and (1) Supplemental Food Bag every Friday.  Our Holiday Food Box Program provides current clients with a holiday meal (turkey or ham included) for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. In 2011, Matthew’s Crossing will be opening the Kidz Café – a safe place for children to go after school to receive a free meal and homework help. The Food Bank is located at 1368 North Arizona Avenue Suite 112; Chandler, Arizona 85225. We accept non-perishable donations during normal operating hours or upon appointment.
